As customer deliveries of the all-new Ford Bronco begin, the automaker has released a high-paced video of it racing a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 around a circuit.

The video is dubbed ‘Shelby vs. Shelby’ and features off-road racer Shelby Hall behind the wheel of the Bronco while piloting the GT500 is the president of Shelby American, Gary Patterson. Obviously, the new Bronco stands no chance in a race against a GT500 around a circuit so Hall has to get creative.

With that in mind, she makes a handful of shortcuts across the grass and ultimately crosses the finish line just ahead of the Mustang. However, this isn’t the most interesting aspect of this video. Instead, the most interesting thing happens in the final few seconds when Patterson is speaking with Hall and says “Shelby should do something with that” while pointing towards the Bronco.

While this is far from confirmation that Shelby will upgrade the new-age Bronco, it seems like an inevitability. The off-roader could be the perfect base for Shelby to work with and for as impressive as it is in standard guide, it could be made even more capable with a series of upgrades.

If Shelby does get its hands on the Bronco, we would expect it to tweak everything from the available four-cylinder and V6 engines through to the suspension and brakes systems, while also working its magic on the car’s exterior and interior designs. We also wouldn’t be surprised if Shelby follows the lead of Hennessey in offering the Bronco with a powerful V8.
