The C8 Chevrolet Corvette will soon enter its third model year and yet, dealerships throughout the United States continue to hit the mid-engined sports car with eye-watering markups.
One of the key reasons why the new Corvette has proved to be so popular since its global debut two years ago is the fact that it had an original MSRP of under $60,000. However, a browse through the classifieds shows that it is actually very difficult to get a Corvette so cheap.
After a little bit of digging, GM Authority found a 2021 Corvette C8 Stingray Convertible with the 1LT trim package up for sale for $115,910 from Dimmitt Chevrolet in Clearwater, Florida, despite having an MSRP of $80,910. There are some markups that are even higher than this. For example, Miami Lakes AutoMall in Florida has a 2021 Corvette Stingray Coupe 2LT listed for $40,546 over its MSRP, bringing its price tag up to $125,896.

Some dealers are asking even more for 2021 Corvette models that they have in stock, including Jessup Auto Plaza in Cathedral City, California that’s selling a 2021 Corvette Stingray Convertible 3LT for $168,700 despite its $93,700 MSRP. The most insane markup comes from Ferman Chevrolet in Tarpon Springs, Florida that wants $161,111 for a 2021 Corvette Stingray Coupe 1LT with a $61,595 MSRP.
It’s worth pointing out that Chevrolet is no longer accepting orders for 2021 Corvette, meaning anyone who wants a ‘Vette will need to purchase a 2022 model. Production of the 2022 model should start later this quarter and many customers will be waiting until next year to take delivery. With this in mind, and with the car being in demand, it’s not much of a surprise that some dealerships are looking to sell 2021 models with markups, betting on shoppers not willing to wait until 2022. But a near $100,000 markup is a little excessive, don’t you think?
