This Off-Road BMW Z4 M Coupe Is Like No Other You’ve Ever Seen

Exhibit T (or maybe U or even V?) in the ongoing case for passenger cars being much cooler off-roaders than any truck is this 2007 BMW Z4 M Coupe, modified to go off-roading during the apocalypse.

Painted in satin black, the first changes you’re likely to notice are the new wheels, all six of them. The 17-inch Black Rhino rims look ready for off-roading, especially with their 235/65 Toyo Open Country A/T tires. If any of the Z4’s tires should be pierced, though, you’ll be relieved to see that there are two more in a specially-designed compartment in the trunk that are poking out through the tailgate.

To accommodate the wheels on the ground, the car has been fitted with an adjustable Ground Control suspension and the wheel arches enlarged. It also sports Baja Design off-road lights, a 40-inch Aurora LED light bar, and a custom black roof rack.

Helping to protect it off-road are cut bumpers and a skid plate. The disc brakes have been upgraded with cross-drilled rotors.

Under the hood, there’s a 3.2-liter S54 inline-six-cylinder engine that sends its power to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. When new, the engine was rated at 330 hp (334 PS/252 kW) and 262 lb-ft (355 Nm) of torque in North America. The seller replaced the rod bearings about 250 miles ago and an AFE air filter has been added.

Its interior, meanwhile, looks reasonably original, with black leather seats, a multi-function steering wheel, and everything you’d expect in a BMW from this era.

With more than 150,000 miles (241,000 km) on it and having been involved in an accident in February 2009, this Z4’s best days were behind it, meaning that the person who modified it (the current seller) didn’t exactly cut up a choice vehicle for this project.
