A British transport manufacturer by the name of Electric Assisted Vehicles Limited (EAV) has just unveiled a unique modular multipurpose vehicle dubbed the Lightweight Inner-City Solution (LINCS).

Underpinning the vehicle is a lightweight aluminum skateboard platform that features two in-hub electric motors sourced from Saietta Group. The motors get their juice from a removable lithium-ion battery pack that can provide up to 100 miles (160 km) of range in urban and intra-urban environments.

EAV has designed the vehicle to suit markets around the world so the driver’s cab can easily move from the left to the right side. It has also been futureproofed for fully-autonomous operations and has a ‘road train’ feature where multiple vehicles can be linked together.

“EAV is much more than an eCargo bike company. We’re a transport technology solutions business,” EAV executive chariman Nigel Gordon-Stewart said in a statement. “We developed and launched the EAV2Cubed and its predecessor the EAVan as the foundation of a complete urban Future Transport vision conceived from a blank sheet of paper.

“In a new, environment and resource conservation-focused world, legacy automotive design and engineering solutions simply don’t work. They’re too heavy, too big and, from a resource and environmental point of view, are just wasteful. LINCS is the next step in our programme which sees a complete replacement of legacy urban road transport with new, sustainable, zero-emissions, environmentally-friendly, safe – but extremely efficient – solutions for cargo and passengers.”

The company has tried to minimize its environmental impact by equipping the LINCS with a recyclable composite bodywork and using fully recycled aluminum for the vehicle’s platform.
