The E34 BMW M5 was the final generation of the iconic sports sedan series to feature an engine with less that 8 cylinders. The car was a true driver’s machine, and the last M car to be built by hand, but what would you pay for one that’s as close to brand new as possible nearly three decades after its demise? That’s what you’ll have to answer with this 1991 M5 up for auction in near-mint condition.
Listed on eBay, this car’s main appeal is that despite being 30 years old, it only has 10,031 km (6,233 mi) on its odometer. Also, this M5 was imported to the United States from Italy, which means it has the Euro-spec styling, engine, and interior. At the time of writing, the highest bid was just over $43,000, and the reserve had not yet been met.
The exterior is finished in a beautiful Mauritius Blue Metallic paint, the likes of which is in immaculate shape. Some of its visual quirks include Style 20 turbofan wheels, as well as the fact that it’s a rare factory slicktop meaning it has no sunroof. The interior is upholstered in black leather, which predictably, is also in pristine condition, and the car as a whole is basically brand new.

Under the hood is BMW‘s S38B36 3.6-liter inline-6. The engine makes 311 hp (315 PS / 232 kW) and 266 lb-ft (360 Nm) of torque, and all that power is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission. When new, that made for a 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) time of 6.3 seconds and a top speed of 160 mph (250 km/h), though C/D had measured it at the time at 5.6 seconds. Given how little this car has been used, we wouldn’t be surprised if its current figures aren’t too far off.
