The BMW M5 CS has proven to not only be exceptionally fun to drive around a circuit, but also very quick in a straight line.

Last week, we brought you a video that showed an M5 CS going head-to-head against a Dodge Charger Hellcat Redeye and despite being at a significant power disadvantage, it managed to claim victories both from a standing start and during a rolling race. However, can the M5 CS perform just as well against an Audi RS6-R tuned by ABT?

To find out, Daniel Abt lined the two up for a series of drag races. Unfortunately, the tarmac was wet at the time of testing, making it impossible to replicate the acceleration figures the duo will be able to record in dry conditions.

In the first race, the Audi gets a much better launch and sprints out into an early lead, thanks to its potent all-wheel drive system and the 740 hp delivered by its tuned 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. By comparison, despite also coming with all-wheel drive, the M5 CS initially struggles to put its power to the ground but when it does, it starts to quickly reel in the RS6-R and overtakes it just before the 800 meter mark. It is an eye-opening result, particularly since the M5 CS is only supposed to have 627 hp.

Two other standing start drag races are held between the pair and in both of them, the Audi gets the better launch while the BMW starts to close the gap at higher speeds but isn’t quite able to overtake. Rounding things off is a rolling drag race which delivers another surprising result as the BMW took a comfortable victory.
