Acura has released a new teaser video of the NSX Type S and is promising improved performance compared to the standard model.

This brief video was shared to Facebook and says the NSX Type S will be “faster than ever.” It also briefly showcases the engine bay and allows us to hear the relatively subdued roar of its twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6.

As standard, the NSX’s twin-turbo V6 engine is good for 500 hp and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm) of torque while three small electric motors lift power up to 573 hp and 476 lb-ft (645 Nm). Those figures were respectable, albeit not astonishing, when the second-generation NSX hit the market in 2016 and as the years have gone by, it could now be viewed as underpowered compared to its rivals.

Acura has confirmed that the NSX Type S will have “more power, quicker acceleration, sharper handling and a more emotional driving experience” than the regular model. This all sounds very exciting but we would be surprised if the power and performance gains were hugely significant. If Acura upgrades the complex hybrid powertrain to more than 600 hp, we’d be pleasantly surprised.

Beyond its improved performance, the NSX Type S will also benefit from some unique styling features, including a new carbon fiber diffuser and unique wheels. Changes will also be made to the front fascia of the supercar.

Acura has confirmed that production of the NSX Type S will be limited to just 350 examples, of which 300 will be reserved for the U.S. It remains to seen what other markets will receive the model.
