It is hard to know what caused the crash but it appears to have occurred near an intersection. The lack of damage to the roof (apart from the shattered sunroof) also suggests that the Land Cruiser didn’t roll and only tipped over onto its side, most likely at relatively low speed. Nevertheless, we’re sure that the side left to rest on the pavement has been badly damaged and it’s possible the vehicle’s insurer will decide it is a complete write-off.
This isn’t the first incident involving the new 300-series Land Cruiser. In early July, just a few weeks after the car’s unveiling, four examples were destroyed after the truck that was transporting them flipped over in Salalah, Oman. Fast forward to the first week of August and another Land Cruiser 300 was damaged after colliding with a Toyota Camry, this time in Russia.
As a reminder, the new Land Cruiser keeps the automaker’s familiar body-on-frame structure but features the new GA-F platform that’s based on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) and reduces the vehicle’s overall weight by 200 kg (441 lbs). A pair of twin-turbocharged V6 engines are available, a 3.5-liter petrol with 409 hp and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm) and a 3.3-liter diesel with 304 hp and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm).
