A 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has been wrecked in Greenville, North Carolina after its owner decided to go for one last drive after selling his mid-engined sports car.

Speaking with WITN, Corvette owner Spencer Everette revealed that he drove the car onto Highway 11 and “gunned it.” That ended up being a bad decision as Everette quickly lost control of the car.

Video from the scene reveals that the Corvette crashed off the side of the road and after sliding into a field with long grass, flipped onto its side. When emergency crews arrived on the scene at approximately 2 p.m. on Monday, they found the car still on its side after Everette managed to climb out.

A tow truck was quickly dispatched and pulled the ‘Vette back onto its wheels. It is unclear if the car simply slid onto the passenger side or if it actually rolled before coming to a rest on its side but it does look as though both the driver and passenger sides have been badly damaged. We can also see that the hardtop had been removed. The owner should be thanking his lucky stars that he wasn’t injured.

Unfortunately for Everette, the authorities haven’t taken too kindly to his admission of gunning it and charged him with reckless driving. He was planning to hand over the keys to the new owner the following day and considering the demand for C8s, he probably would have walked away with a tidy profit.
