Zhengzhou’s trade association, which serves the city that bore the brunt of recent floods in China, estimates that more than 400,000 vehicles were damaged.

Row upon row of damaged cars can be seen in a lot awaiting their fate as many are likely to be totaled by the flooding reports the Weather Network. A similar lot of damaged cars could be seen at Royal Purple Raceway in Texas, following 2017’s flooding in Houston, Texas.

The scale of the damaged cars only tells a part of the disaster that the floods in the Henan province have wrought. The provincial government estimates that the late July floods have affected more than 14 million people, with more than 930,000 needing to be relocated.

Tragically, 302 people perished in the deluge, with 50 more still missing. The majority of the victims were located in Zhengzhou, where 8 inches of rain fell in just an hour, turning roads in rivers and washing away vehicles.

Henan provincial officials have vowed to restore basic production and living conditions, the Global Times reports. They say that living conditions will be back to pre-flood levels within a year and it will look to improve flood measure and drainage capacity within two to three years.

The scope of the damage is enormous. At least 1 million hectares of crops have been affected, a third of which won’t be able to yield any harvest. Along with the vehicles, railways and basic infrastructure were also affected by the flooding.

In all the damage is estimated to amount to 133.7 billion yuan ($20.63 billion USD).
