Despite being produced between 1993 and 1999, the BMW 3 Series E36 Convertible remains a handsome soft-top four-seater model. One owner of the car from Germany though didn’t seem to agree, and altered the looks of his E36 bringing body panels from its successor, the E46. The end result is a weird mashup which is now listed for sale on eBay after being used as a showcar.

The project started with a 1995 BMW 328i Convertible before the transformation began. The most obvious modification is the front end which comes from a facelifted E46 coupe/convertible as the xenon headlight suggests, even though they are partly hiding below an aftermarket bonnet.

The bumpers, side sills, and wide fenders are sourced from an M3, like the quad exhaust pipes on the rear diffuser. Last but not least, the owner chose a set of aftermarket wheels that don’t look properly attached to the low-profile tires.

Inside we find M3 seats upholstered in fine leather, a music system that is allegedly worth over €5,000 ($5,868), screens behind the front seats, an aftermarket touchscreen on the center console, and an Alpina speedometer.

A few things the new owner must keep in mind is that the vehicle hasn’t gotten a renewed Tüv, it has rust on the rear right side and the rear bumper needs to be repainted. The soft-top is renewed so we guess this won’t be an issue.

Under the bonnet lies the original 2.8-liter six-cylinder engine producing 190 hp (142 kW / 193 PS) and 280 Nm (207 lb-ft) of torque. Power is transmitted to the rear axle through a manual transmission. The car also has an Accuair Airride air suspension which is evident from the pictures.

The odometer reads at approximately 185,000 miles (297,729 km) which is quite a lot but the seller claims it is in good shape for its age after a full rebuild. He/she says the reason for selling is that the car is not used as much as he/she has no time.

The car is located in Grefrath, Germany, and the current bid sits at €6.706 ($7,872). The online auction will close on the 29th of August so if you are interested keep watching this space. The seller suggests that he gives no warranty and he/she is not open to any complaints after the exchange.
