Hot on the heels of yesterday’s teasers, Acura has announced plans to auction the first 2022 NSX Type S.
Set to go under the hammer at Mecum’s Monterey Auction on August 14th, the first production model will wear VIN #001 and the winning bidder will be able to order the car to their exact specifications.
All proceeds will benifit charities including a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) program for underserved youths in partnership with the Center of Science and Industry. Acura says the auction will enable them to provide over 20,000 COSI Learning Lunchbox STEAM kits, which are “filled with educational activities and resources” for kindergarten to 8th grade children. Most of the kits will go to areas where Acura and Honda have facilities and this means distribution will be focused in Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, North Carolina, Ohio and South Carolina.

Acura Brand Officer Jon Ikeda said the company is “proud to help inspire America’s next-generation of designers, engineers and manufacturers through the expansion of STEAM education in underserved communities.” He added, “We hope to help them discover the possibilities of their own futures, especially those students who have not had sufficient access to these types of programs due to COVID and other socio-economic factors.”
Getting back to the NSX Type S, Acura didn’t have much new to say about the car other than orders will begin on August 12th at Acura.com/Type-S. Fans will likely want to act fast as production will be limited to 350 units and only 300 of them will be available in the United States.
While full details will be released later this month, the company has already confirmed the NSX Type S will have an “enhanced” twin-turbo V6 engine as well as a Sport Hybrid Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system. The company has also said the model will have “more power, quicker acceleration, sharper handling and a more emotional driving experience.”
