Ford Europe put an Explorer Plug-In Hybrid atop the tallest free-standing climbing tower on earth. The person with the fastest time over a course set by Ford got a free two-year lease of the SUV.

The tower is located in Lillesand, in southern Norway, and it’s 47 meters (154 ft) tall. It opened in June this year and, at its peak, climbers can see across the Skagerrak strait into neighboring Denmark.

The route that climbers had to follow to win the Explorer Plug-in Hybrid was designed by Martin Mobråten, a champion climber, who built in tough obstacles, big jumps, and more to challenge even the most seasoned climber. For a little added spice, Ford built an extra platform on top of the tower that climbers had to get up.

“Our goal with Explore New Heights was to create an inspiring symbol of exploration and adventure as people across Europe start to head out and enjoy the summer after a challenging year,” said Dan Jones, senior manager for passenger vehicles at Ford of Europe. “Norway is one of the world’s most progressive markets for electrified vehicles, so the OVER tower was the clear choice to host a challenge involving our pure-electric-capable, seven-seat SUV.”

On July 31, 14 climbers competed to set the best time and win the vehicle. In the end, 21-year-old Leo Ketil Bøe earned the victory with a time of 3 minutes and 33 seconds.

Fortunately, if you just want to enjoy the view, there are several other easier routes for slightly less seasoned climbers, as well as a staircase. Once at the top, visitors are encouraged to take a photo with the plug-in hybrid SUV.

The Explorer Plug-in Hybrid will remain in place at the top of the tower until August 27 for people who want to see the car and get a free t-shirt.
