Formula 1’s CEO, Stefano Domenicali revealed that the first Miami Grand Prix will take place in the first half of May 2022.
“We can confirm that the much-anticipated Miami Grand Prix will happen in the first half of May, and demand for tickets is high, even though sales have not officially started,” said Domenicali during an investor call, per PlanetF1.
Although the 2021 season is just halfway done, Formula 1 is already looking to firm up the calendar for 2022. Domenicali said that F1 hopes to reveal a full preliminary calendar in September or October.

The Miami Grand Prix was confirmed in April and F1 and the event’s organizers have agreed to a 10-year deal. The circuit will loop around the Hard Rock Stadium complex, the home of the Miami Dolphins NFL team.
Although temporary, F1 is trying to avoid making it feel too much like a street circuit. It will instead look to make it feel more like Australia’s Albert Park or Canada’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
At 3.36-miles (5.41 km) long, the circuit will have 19 turns and will feature a straight long enough to allow top speeds of 198 mph (320 km/h). Average speeds are expected to be around 138 mph (223 km/h). By contrast, Silverstone, home of the British Grand Prix, has an average speed of 145 mph (233 km/h).
American audiences are of major interest to Formula 1, so it hopes that hosting another Grand Prix in the States will help garner even more interest. With discounted tickets for those living in the Miami Gardens community, where the race is being held, and STEM education programs promised, it should get locals interested.
