The GMC Hummer EV has a bold and commanding design but had things gone a little different, it could have looked even more striking.

The General Motors Design page on Instagram recently shared an image that shows an intriguing ideation sketch that was created during the development of the electric pickup truck.

Ideation sketches are typically created during the brainstorming phase of developing a new product. This sketch looks to have progressed quite considerably and while it does share some similarities with the eventual design selected for the production model, it does also have its own unique presence.

The shape of the roof, doors and side windows are similar to the production model but this concept has much smaller taillights. In addition, the front and rear wheel arches are much more angular in their design. The tailgate is also quite unique, as is the rear bumper. Two large tow hooks are also visible in the same place as the production line.

To our eyes, the Hummer EV depicted in this sketch doesn’t have quite the same brutish appeal as the production model and appears a little over-styled. What do you think?

While the GMC Hummer EV won’t be the first all-electric pickup truck to hit the market, it will be one of the most exciting. The truck will initially launch in Edition 1 guise that features three electric motors which combine to produce 1,000 hp and 11,500 lb-ft (15,592 Nm) of torque, allowing it to hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 3.0 seconds.
