Onboard footage from the storming run of a modified Tesla Model S Plaid lapping Laguna Seca has just been released.
Last week, Randy Pobst lapped the famous circuit in a Model S Plaid modified by Unplugged Performance in just 1:28.2, beating the time previously set by a Porsche 911 GT2 RS.

While Unplugged Performance hasn’t messed with the powertrain of this Model S Plaid, it has made a number of extensive modifications to it. For example, it features a towering rear wing, a distinctive front splitter, aftermarket wheels, and was rocking slick tires. The suspension and braking systems have also been upgraded to extract some extra performance from the electric sedan, turning it into a track-focused weapon.
While watching the video, it’s hard not to be impressed by the way the Model S Plaid picks up speed when exiting the corners throughout the track. It is also able to storm through corners at exceptional speeds while remaining extremely flat and showing minimal signs of understeer or oversteer. In fact, it looks relatively easy to drive at these kinds of speeds.
Unless Randy Pobst set a lap time in a standard Model S Plaid around Laguna Seca on the same day and in the same conditions as his lap in the modified one, it’s impossible to know just how much faster this example is from the street-legal model but we suspect the slick tires alone could shave off a couple of seconds.
