Maserati has revealed that the upcoming Grecale SUV will be offered in high-performance Trofeo guise.
The Drive recently had the opportunity to speak with Maserati North America chief executive William Peffer at the Monterey Car Week. He said that the compact SUV will be different from its rivals in that it will be fun to drive and it will be offered in GT, Modena, and Trofeo guises.
“One of the ways you do that is you’re consistent with that product within your lineup,” Peffer said. “For us, that means the three trims. So we will have a Trofeo version of [the Grecale], we will have a Modena version of that. We will have a GT version.”

It is not yet known what engines will be available for the Grecale, although we expect them to be borrowed from other models. As the Grecale shares its Giorgio platform with the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, entry-level models could be sold with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder mustering up approximately 280 hp.
It’s a little more difficult to determine what will power the Grecale Trofeo. Maserati’s existing Trofeo models, namely the Ghibli, Levante, and Quattroporte, all share a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V8 with 580 hp and 538 lb-ft (730 Nm). While it would be exciting if the flagship Grecale had this same engine, we don’t think that’s likely. One possibility is that it could get the same twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 as the Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio, where it pumps out 505 hp.
