Mercedes-Benz has kicked off sales of the all-electric EQS in Germany, confirming pricing details and also revealing that some interesting new features will be available through over-the-air updates.
In Germany, prices for the EQS start at €106,374 ($124,637) for the EQS 450+ model, while the more powerful EQS 580 4Matic starts at €135,529 ($158,797).
For a limited time, it will also be available in Edition 1 guise for an extra €18,433 ($21,593) which adds an AMG Line exterior, obsidian black metallic paint, a panoramic sliding sunroof, 21-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, and Edition 1 badging. The interior also features Neva Grey/Reflex Blue Nappa leather upholstery, multi-contour front seats, walnut wood trim elements, Edition 1 branding on the floor mats and door sills, and designer seat belts.

A number of over-the-air updates have also been introduced in time for the car’s launch. One of these updates adds a so-called ‘Roaring Pulse’ soundtrack to amplify the sounds of the EQS and a games package that allows Tetris, Sudoku, Pairs, and Shuffle Puck to be played on the car’s massive ‘hyperscreen’ infotainment system. These features are free for the first 12 months and can be extended beyond that for €89 ($104).
In addition, there is an over-the-air update to enable a ‘Beginner Drive Mode’ and a ‘Valet Service Mode.’ The former limits the car to 75 mph (120 km/h) and disables the Sport driving mode, while the latter caps the EQS to 50 mph (80 km/h) and restricts access to the owner’s personal profile.
Mercedes-Benz has also introduced a Highlight Mode as an over-the-air update. It is activated via voice control and demonstrates the car’s various features on the hyperscreen.
