Good morning and welcome to our weekly digest of automotive news from around the globe, starting with…
Buying something online by mistake is increasingly hard to do. You can set up two-factor authorization, or generally have to put in some kind of password to approve purchases. But not for one Tesla owner, who took to Twitter to claim that he was $14,186.25 out of pocket. Why? Someone who borrowed his car accidentally signed up for both Autopilot and Full Self-Driving Capability. While the amounts were refunded, it shows how easily a large chunk can be spent accidentally in a Tesla.
2022 Acura NSX Type S Teased, Will Be A Last Hurrah For The Electrified Supercar
The world asked for a hotter ‘Type S’ version of the hybrid NSX supercar, but this wasn’t exactly what we had hoped for: a runout swansong limited to 350 units. Three hundred of those units will be destined for the U.S., where the NSX was designed and developed. But at least it’ll be sent out on a high, featuring “more power, quicker acceleration, sharper handling and a more emotional driving experience.”
2022 Genesis GV60 Electric Crossover Photographed Undisguised
Thanks to the need for marketing material, we’ve got our first sneak peek at the Genesis GV60 crossover, spied during a photoshoot. The images look similar to our earlier render, showing a kicked-up window line, as well as lush door handles, black plastic wheel arch cladding and Genesis’s now-familiar bisected tail-lights, which bleed into the trunk lid.
President Biden Aims For 50% Of New Vehicles To Be Electrified In 2030
U.S. President Joe Biden is set to announce new targets for electric vehicle sales, signing an executive order that calls for 50 percent of new vehicles sold in 2030 to be electrified. The document will encourage both the industry and government to hasten the adoption of electric vehicles. Meanwhile, the Environmental Protection Agency has proposed that fuel economy standards are raised to an average of 38.2 mpg for the 2026 MY. Such an increase is estimated to cost manufacturers $1000 per car, which would, in all likelihood, be passed on to consumers. However, the EPA argues that over a year, a similar amount would be saved on gas.
2023 Alfa Romeo Tonale PHEV Spied Showing Production Body And Headlights
The upcoming Tonale crossover from Alfa Romeo has been spied, albeit heavily camouflaged. The Tonale will share its platform with the Jeep Compass and there will also be a Dodge-badged version unveiled sometime in 2022. The Tonale will feature as a PHEV, while Alfa’s focus will be on bestowing the Tonale with sporty handling characteristics.
10 Cool Vintage Muscle Cars That Aren’t The 1968 Dodge Charger
We love a good Charger. It’s definitely one of the first cars that spring to mind when anyone starts talking about modern muscle cars. But let’s not forget that the genre was so diverse, with many more examples of ice-cool muscle-bound American iron. What about the 1970 Ford Torino Cobra? Or a 1970 AMC Rebel Machine? Take a look and see if we’ve missed any.
The Final Edition was a limited swang song for the dearly departed Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. With production ending in 2016, you wouldn’t be blamed for thinking that the chances of getting a new example are nigh on impossible. However, one dealership in Ontario, Canada has one with just 62 miles (99 km). The catch? They’re asking a massive $147,899 CAD ($118,227 USD).
Ferrari Purosangue SUV: Here’s What We Know And What It’s Got To Beat
Yes, Ferrari is going to make an SUV. Even the most storied of Italian performance brands simply cannot ignore the demand for one. So what do we know about it? Well, Ferrari says it’ll be called the Purosangue (say poo-row-sann-gway), and it should be on sale before the end of 2022. We expect a V12, and possibly a hybrid V8 further down the line. Hit the link to find out everything else.
Lexus Adds Black Line Edition, New Standard Tech To The GX 460 For 2022
The 2022 Lexus GX 460 will get a few updates across the board, as well as a new Black Line Edition. All examples will get standard Intuitive Parking Assist, navigation, power-folding mirrors, a 10.3-inch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Lexus’ full suite of safety tech. The Black Line Special Edition brings a new exclusive Nori Green Pearl, as well as two other colors. There are some visual enhancements to the exterior, like gloss black wheels and a blacked-out grille, and there’s more black inside, with the headliner, seats, and trim featuring the dark shade extensively.
1200 HP Lamborghini Huracan Vs. 1300 HP Nissan GT-R Nismo Vs. Red Bull F1 Car Is A Race For The Ages
Red Bull’s Formula One RB7 F1 went up against a 1,200 hp (1,217 PS / 895 kW) twin-turbo Lambo and a 1,300 hp (1,318 PS / 969 kW) GT-R. The results are definitely worth a watch, as unlike when it went up against the Chiron, this time the F1 car appears to be outgunned on (almost) all counts.
What Else Is Making The News?
China Reports Stong Electric Vehicle Sales
July’s electric vehicle sales are on the rise in China and will stay that way, reports Reuters. Li Auto and Xpeng more than tripled their sales from what they were a year ago, while Nio doubled theirs. The global economic recovery coupled with China’s policy of promoting electric vehicles has means trends are expected to continue.
New York Auto Show Cancelled Due to Covid – Again, For The Fourth Time In A Row
The 2021 New York International Motorshow has been called off for the fourth time in a row. We were hopeful that the event that was to take place this month would finally get off the ground. Alas, with the rise of the Covid-19 Delta variant, the show has been pushed back yet again to April 2022.
