Acura has filed to trademark the name ‘Integra Type S’ with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, all but confirming the new car will have a performance-focused variant.
As reported by Carbuzz, the trademark was filed on August 20, 2021, just a week after Acura confirmed that the Integra would be making a return. While Acura’s trademark is for “apparel and headwear, namely, caps, hats, t-shirts, shirts, sweatshirts, knit shirts, polo shirts, jackets and vests,” it seems quite obvious that the trademark wouldn’t have been filed if the name wasn’t also set to be used by a production vehicle.

Acura hasn’t stated if the Integra will be a two-door or if it will be a four-door but most signs point towards the latter. In mid-2020, an image from an Acura dealership meeting leaked online. This image depicted the automaker’s future roadmap and confirmed a “new compact sedan” would launch in around 2022. It also confirmed this model would be offered as a Type S.
A teaser image also released by Acura of the car reveals that it will have headlight similar to those of the TLX. With that in mind, and considering that it will probably be a four-door sedan, it seems likely the Integra Type S could borrow parts from the larger TLX Type S. Could that include the TLX’s 3.0-liter turbocharged V6? Maybe, maybe not. Could it include a similar double-wishbone front suspension setup to the TLX Type S? We sure hope so.
Fortunately, we won’t have to wait too long to find out more about the Integra with confirmation that it will be launched next year.
