The Rivian R1T has been a long time coming but soon, it will land in the hands of customers as the first all-electric pickup truck on the market.

As the electric startup puts the finishing touches to the vehicle, company founder and chief executive R.J. Scaringe has shared a video of it being tested through a deep water trap.

Rivian has differentiated itself from other EV startups by marketing the R1T and R1S towards adventurers and those that love to get away from the city. As such, it expects many of its customers to go off-roading in their vehicles so tests to verify its wading abilities are very import. In this clip, the water looks to be about 2.5 feet deep and comes up towards the top of the wheel arches. Rivian’s official claim is that the R1T has a wading depth of over 3 feet.

The R1T has a number of other things going for it that promise to make it quite an impressive off-roader. For example, it can rock crawl at a 100% grade and has 14-inches of ground clearance. It will also be offered with wheels in 20-inch, 21-inch, and 22-inch forms wrapped in bespoke Pirelli tires that were developed especially for Rivian. The automaker also says the R1T can tow up to 11,000 lbs.

The release of this video comes just after it was revealed that Rivian has filed confidential paperwork with the Securities and Exchange Commission for an initial public offering. The car manufacturer is reportedly seeking a value of approximately $80 billion which would place it above Ford and General Motors.
