Subaru’s Wilderness sub-brand is growing as the company has teased the latest addition to the lineup.
The automaker is keeping details under wraps, but the model has plastic body cladding as well as five-spoke wheels that echo those found on the Outback Wilderness. We can also see Wilderness badges as well as an off-road focused suspension.
While nothing is official, the mystery model is expected to be a Forester Wilderness. That’s hard to confirm, but the door-mounted mirrors and shape of the side cladding backs up that belief.

If this is a Forester Wilderness, we can expect a familiar 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 182 hp (136 kW / 185 PS) and 176 lb-ft (239 Nm) of torque. It should be paired to a continuously variable transmission and a standard all-wheel drive system.
Since the model will follow in the footsteps of the Outback Wilderness, it will likely be equipped with new bumpers, a front skid plate and a honey comb mesh grille. We can also expect anodized copper accents as well as a retuned suspension with unique springs and shock absorbers. The model could also have an extra inch of ground clearance.
The upgrades should continue in the cabin, where we can expect to find water-repellant StarTex seats with embossed headrests. They could be joined by anodized copper trim, gunmetal grey accents and brushed aluminum pedals.
Subaru declined to say when the next Wilderness variant will be introduced, but the New York Auto Show kicks off on August 19th.
