Sometimes when you have a nice car, you want to show it off. In the case of this Tesla Model X , its owner wanted to showcase the car’s unique falcon wing doors, which for those who aren’t familiar, open upwards. Unfortunately for him, though, he had one of them permanently damaged after hitting a bus while driving with it open.
The video of the incident shows a black Model X on the streets of London, and it begins with the car pulling out from a curbside parking space, at which point the passenger-side falcon wing door was already open. The driver then proceeds down the street, where all seems good until he approaches a double-decker bus. The person behind the camera seems to think he’ll make it as well, saying “He’s gonna be alright,” but unfortunately that wasn’t the case.

The door clipped the front of the bus, which subsequently bent the door backwards. Even if this were a normal door this would be an issue, as opening a door beyond its range of motion would break it. But these aren’t normal doors as they open upwards and, thus, have hinges between the roof and door section. So not only did this accident bend the door in a way it was never designed to move in, but it also likely damaged the hinges and the associated electronics.
If that wasn’t enough, the doors also did some damage to the bus, shattering some glass and ripping a body panel off. That’s a lot of damage for what seems to be just an attempt to show off, but thankfully no one was injured in this debacle. You can watch the whole thing unfold for yourself in the video below.
