Ford GTs are a relatively rare sight on European roads but AutoTopNL recently had the opportunity to put one through its paces. While the GT may not have the same power as some of its rivals, it still looks like an incredible thing to drive.

One unique aspect about the Ford GT is the fact that it was first designed as a race car to compete in the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans with the singular goal of winning its class to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the GT40’s outright win. Ford achieved that goal and soon after, started customer deliveries of the second-generation GT, launched as a toned-down version of the race car.

Given the car’s racing origins, it comes as little surprise that it is among the most hardcore and focused road-going supercars launched in recent years. This POV video provides us with an idea of what it is like to drive it.

The Ford GT is powered by a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6. This engine pumped out 647 hp and 550 lb-ft (746 Nm) of torque in its original guise but horsepower rose to 660 for the 2020 model year. Coupled to the V6 is a seven-speed Getrag dual-clutch transmission. While it may not be a V8, as some would expect, we think this engine sounds excellent, particularly when matched with the Akrapovic exhaust.
