The fifth of just 10 Pagani Zonda R Evolution models ever produced and the first to be offered in the U.S. is up for sale and interested parties will be able to give it the once over this weekend as part of the Monterey Car Week.
This car actually started life out as a Zonda R in 2010 (the same car that holds the non-series, production-based, gas-powered car record around the Nurburgring), before it went back to the factory to get the Evolution treatment.
That meant an extra 50 horses, a new front-end, and a new smaller rear wing to go under the existing big one. Its the Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR-derived 6.0-liter V12 engine delivered 800 hp (596 kW/811 PS), which were good enough for a 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time of 2.7 seconds and a reported top speed of 230 mph (370 km/h).

When it returned to the factory it also got new lightweight magnesium alloy wheels that were designed to match the finish and shape of the originals.
All the additions were made to a car that already had a six-speed sequential transaxle with a multi-disc racing clutch with magnesium casing, a roof-mounted F1-like carbon fiber intake channel, and ceramic-coated Inconel 625 headers. It also sounds like a lovelorn banshee.
Despite all of that technology and the great potential for speed, the car has driven just 1,016 km (631 miles). It’s being sold by RM Sotheby’s and prices are only available upon request, but the Zonda R Evolution reportedly cost $2.27 million when it was new.
