A 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa formerly owned by Tom Cruise is currently up for auction in Bloomington, Illinois.
The Bring a Trailer listing reveals that Cruise purchased the car new in April 1986, the same year that Top Gun was released, and owned it until February 1987. After Cruise’s ownership, the car spent time in New Jersey and Georgia before relocating to Illinois after being acquired by the current owner in 2012.

Adorning the exterior of the sports car is a simple shade of black and in 2020, the car underwent a bare-metal repaint and had its windshield, rear window gasket, and Targa bar seal replaced. It also sits on 16-inch Fuchs wheels with black centers and Continental Extreme Contact tires. These wheels were refurbished in 2020 and the brake calipers were also rebuilt in 2016.
A look inside the cabin of the 911 reveals black leather upholstery with a matching dashboard, carpets, and door panels. There are also power-adjustable front sport seats, cruise control, power windows, and a Blaupunkt Monterey cassette stereo with Bluetooth capability. The interior also benefitted from a refurbishment in 2020 but the listing notes that air conditioning does not work.
Power is provided by a 3.2-liter flat-six sending power through the rear wheels courtesy of a five-speed manual transmission. The total mileage of the car remains unknown as the odometer was replaced 8,800 miles (14,162 km) ago but the refurbishment did see both the engine and transaxle rebuilt, so it should run very nicely.
