2022 Genesis GV60 Electric Crossover Has Up To 429 HP And Includes A Drift Mode

A little while after it was previewed, the all-new Genesis GV60 has been officially unveiled by the South Korean car manufacturer during an online event.

Like the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5, the GV60 is underpinned by the Hyundai Group’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) and will be offered in standard rear-wheel drive, standard four-wheel drive, and performance variants.

All models feature the same 77.4 kWh battery pack, with the entry-level car having a single electric motor at the rear wheels producing 225 hp (168 kW) and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque. Meanwhile, the standard all-wheel drive model has a 214 hp (160 kW) motor at the rear and a 99 hp (74 kW) motor at the front, resulting in a total of 313 hp (234 kW) and 446 lb-ft (605 Nm). Genesis quotes a range of 280 miles (451 km) for the standard rear-wheel drive model and 248 miles (400 km) for the standard all-wheel drive.

Topping out the range is the performance model with 214 hp (160 kW) motors at both the front and rear, combining to produce 429 hp (320 kW) and 446 lb-ft (605 Nm). This variant can travel 228 miles (368 km) on a charge and with the standard Boost Mode engaged, can hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4 seconds. While Genesis is best known for its luxury cars, it has also equipped the GV60 with a Drift Mode.

The technology continues

Elsewhere, the GV60 is the first model from Genesis to feature its new electric Active Sound Design (e-ASD) system. This system pumps different driving sounds through the speakers depending on the driving mode. Buyers can choose between a ‘Futuristic’ sound, a soft and sporty ‘G-Engine’ sound designed to mimic a combustion engine, and an ‘E-Motor’ sound that “reimagines the vehicle’s motor sounds.” Road Active Noise Control technology is also fitted as standard.

Genesis has also equipped the GV60 with an electric Limited Slip Differential and Preview Electronic Control Suspension that uses information gathered from the front camera and navigation system to recognize things like speed bumps and adjust the damping force of the suspension ahead of time. All-wheel drive models also feature a Disconnector Actuator System that can separate or connect the motor and the drift shaft according to the driving conditions, meaning owners can freely switch between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

Further adding to the desirability of the GV60 is the fact that it has a 400/800V multi rapid charging system that enables 350 kW ultra-speed charging, meaning the battery can be charged from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in just 18 minutes. The car can also be used as a mobile power source through the Vehicle to Load function.

Found in the cabin are a plethora of features unique to the Genesis GV60. These include the company’s next-generation infotainment system which seamlessly connects content across the infotainment screen, digital instrument cluster, and Head-Up Display. It is also the first Genesis to feature a Bang & Olufsen sound system and comes with no less than 17 speakers.

A number of unique features are also found within. These include a Face Connect system that allows the vehicle to recognize the driver’s face to lock or unlock the doors. The automaker’s Crystal Sphere gear shifter makes the car stand out even further.

Customers can choose from 11 different exterior colors for the GV60, including four new colors to the Genesis range dubbed Sao Paulo Lime, Hanauma Mint, Atacama Copper, and Atacama Copper Matte. Other colors include Vik Black, Uyuni White, Matterhorn White, Saville Silver, Carbon Metal, Melbourne Gray, and Royal Blue. While the GV60 may look relatively compact, it has a 114 inch (2,900 mm) wheelbase.

Did someone say safe?

A plethora of safety features come standard. These include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), Safe Exit Assist (SEA), Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA), Driver Attention Warning (DAW), rear side monitor, High Beam Assist (HBA), Smart Cruise Control (SCC), Navigation-Based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC), Lane Following Assist (LFA), Highway Driving Assist 2(HDA 2), Rear View Monitor (RVM), Surround View Monitor (SVM), Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA), Parking Distance Warnings for the front, side and rear (PDW), Rear Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist, and Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA).

Genesis has yet to reveal when the GV60 will launch in certain markets nor how much it will cost.
