This is the updated 2022 Honda Passport and as we had suspected, it has been updated with a more rugged design.
Changes made to the Passport start at the front end where there is a new hood with a power bulge, bespoke front fenders, and a new upright grille design. Honda has also redesigned the front bumper and fitted new vents that route air through the bumper and around the front wheels to improve aerodynamic performance.
Alterations continue at the rear end where the 2022 Passport features a more aggressive rear bumper with larger tailpipes, a tow hitch cover, and a skid-plate garnish. Honda also added new 18-inch and 20-inch wheel designs.
Honda Jumps On The Rugged SUV Bandwagon With TrailSport Edition
One of the highlights of the 2022 Honda Passport is the new TrailSport variant. Honda trademarked the TrailSport name earlier this year and says the Passport will be the first in a new series of models to use the nameplate. The new Passport TrailSport (try saying that five times fast) features wider front and rear tracks by 10mm, a unique grille, more aggressive front and rear bumpers, and a rear skid garnish finished in silver.

The new Passport TrailSport also comes with unique 18-inch wheels with 245/60R18 tires and has TrailSport badges across the exterior. As for the cabin, it too includes TrailSport badges, orange contrast stitching on the steering wheel, door panels, and seats, and a TrailSport logo embroidered on the front seat headrests. The gauge cluster adopts a unique black chrome surround.
Honda says future model year versions of the Passport TrailSport will be available with upgrades including more aggressive tires and off-road-tuned suspension. Buyers of the 2022 model can also option it with an HPD Package that includes a different grille, black fender flares, sportier wheels, and HPD graphics on the rear quarter panels.
Standard 280HP 3.5-liter V6 Across The Range
All 2022 Honda Passport models, including the TrailSport, come standard with a 3.5-liter naturally-aspirated V6 with 280 hp and 262 lb-ft (355 Nm) of torque. Drive is sent to all four wheels through a torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system and a nine-speed automatic transmission.
A host of driver assistance systems come standard across the range, including Collision Mitigation Braking System with Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keeping Assist System, Road Departure Mitigation with Lane Departure Warning, and Adaptive Cruise Control. Honda has also added a Rear Seat Reminder as standard.
“Some may not realize the true rugged, off-road capabilities of our light trucks,” executive vice president of National Operations at American Honda, Dave Gardner said. “Now they’re getting tough, rugged looks to match, and the addition of TrailSport will further enhance the off-road capability of our vehicles in the future.”
Sales Start Before The End Of The Year
The 2022 Honda Passport will start to arrive in dealerships this winter. Pricing details haven’t been announced.
