Toyota has dropped a new set of teasers showing their latest SUV for the Chinese market called the Frontlander. As we can clearly see from the pictures, the Frontlander is a new name for the Chinese-spec Toyota Corolla Cross that is expected to be unveiled at the Guangzhou Auto Show in November.
Besides the picture revealing the upper part of the profile, there is a second teaser showing the LED headlights and the grille. These are borrowed from the Japanese-spec Corolla Cross which has a different face compared to the US-spec. Besides adopting the full-LED headlights found on higher grades, the Chinese model gets the classic Toyota emblem.
The TNGA-based Frontlander will probably be offered with both petrol and hybrid powertrains. Most likely it will get the naturally aspirated 1.8-litre four-cylinder producing 138 hp (103 kW / 140 PS), and the Hybrid producing a combined 121 hp (90 kW / 122 PS). The latter might be also offered with the optional E-Four electric 4WD system.

Like with other automakers, Toyota has partnered with two local manufacturers – FAW and GAC. The Frontlander will be produced by GAC Toyota, but an identical model could also be introduced by FAW using the Corolla Cross name.
Due to the fact that Toyota models are sometimes produced by both Chinese companies, it is common for them to change names – for example the Corolla is also known as Levin, the C-HR is also called IZOA, the RAV4 is sold as the Wildlander, while the Highlander is also known as Crown Kluger.
