BMW Motorrad is breaking from tradition once again as the company has unveiled the Concept CE 02.
Billed as a “new interpretation of smart, urban single-track mobility,” the concept isn’t a traditional motorcycle or scooter. Instead, is a lightweight electric vehicle that blurs the lines between the two.
This was done on purpose as the concept is designed to appeal to an unlikely audience, people as young as 16 who have not ridden a motorcycle before. Given this demographic, it comes as little surprise the bike has a skateboard mount, playful graphics, and is envisioned to be customized with stickers.

Putting that aside, BMW says the bike has “simple and transparent proportions” that ensure an “honest, emotional aesthetic appeal.” That’s up for debate, but the bike has 15-inch wheels, LED lighting units, and a minimalist digital instrument cluster.
Riders will also find a “continuous seat,” which allows for multiple riding positions including “leaning far back with your feet first or leaning forward with your feet on the rear footrests or, of course, with two people.” The bike also features a small cargo area, between the front of the seat and the frame.
The Concept CE 02 was designed for urban use and features an electric motor that produces a mere 15 hp (11 kW / 15 PS). However, thanks to its relatively lightweight of around 265 lbs (120 kg), the model can hit a top speed of 56 mph (90 km/h). The concept also has a range of 56 miles (90 km), which should be more than enough for the typical urban commute.
Since the CE 02 was designed to be used by inexperienced riders, BMW has created concept rider gear with “print-on protection.” As the company explained, volume-forming material is printed on cloth and it’s abrasion-resistant as well as impact-absorbing.
