BYD has introduced their new Ocean-X concept in China.
Billed as a high-performance mid-sized electric sedan, the concept features a curvaceous front end with slender headlights. Further below, we can see a ‘frowning’ lower accent and what appears to be angular air curtains.
Moving further back, the concept features futuristic wheels and dynamic bodywork with a recessed accent. The model also boasts a sporty greenhouse and a low drag coefficient of 0.21.

BYD was coy on specifics, but noted the concept rides on the new e-platform 3.0, which will eventually underpin an assortment of vehicles as well as “facilitate the development of intelligent EVs worldwide.” The architecture features increased rigidity, “ultra-safe blade batteries,” and the “world’s first 8-in-1 electric powertrain.”
That isn’t much to go on, but the company said the platform will allow for ranges in excess of 620 miles (1,000 km). It also features an ultra fast 800V charging capability, which delivers up to 93 miles (150 km) of range in as little as five minutes.
More interestingly, the concept hints at a high-performance all-wheel drive powertrain. Details are virtually non-existent, but the company said the system will allow for 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) times of 2.9 seconds while also having energy consumption similar to two-wheel drive models. If that pans out, it would be an impressive achievement as many high-performance EVs have lower ranges than their more mainstream variants.
