Like most new BMW models, the 2022 2-Series has sparked a lot of controversy because of its exterior design. Noted car designer Frank Stephenson was especially outspoken with his critique of the new sports car. Now, the official configurator for the car has been released and it begs the question, can the 2-Series look good in the right specification?
To start out the process of designing our perfect 2-Series, we opted for the flagship M240i xDrive Coupe and immediately selected the Shadowline trim. The configurator then presents you with the available color options, of which there are only seven. Portimao Blue Metallic was our pick but with BMW recently opening its Individual color palette to the 1-Series and 2-Series, we’re sure many owners will opt for something slightly more unique.

Curiously, there are actually more wheel and tires options than paint options. Our M240i xDrive features the 19-inch M Double spoke wheels finished in cerium gray, although it was a toss-up with the 19-inch jet black wheels.
In the cabin, we have opted for Tacora Red leather alongside Aluminum Tetragon accents rather than piano black. Various options are also available for the car, including heated front seats and a premium Harman Kardon surround sound system.
So, does the 2-Series look any good in my perfect configuration? To my eyes, no, it doesn’t. But to you, the perfect paint and wheel options could tempt you to head straight to a local BMW dealer and place an order. For me, I’ll have to wait until the M Performance Parts are announced to see if they can be the saving grace for the 2-Series.
