The air suspension system of the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L has become the latest victim of the ongoing semiconductor shortage.
When launched, the Grand Cherokee L could be ordered with the automaker’s new Quadra-Lift air suspension with electronic adaptive damping. This complex system operates automatically or can be controlled manually depending on the selected driving mode. It was also a standard feature on the Overland and Summit models.
However, the option for the class-exclusive Quadra-Lift air suspension recently disappeared from the configurator used for the Grand Cherokee L. The automaker has since confirmed that individuals who ordered the new SUV with the air suspension system will receive a $750 reduction in the overall cost of their vehicle due to its absence.

In a statement issued to Mopar Insiders, a Jeep spokesperson confirmed that the chip shortage was the reason why the air suspension has been removed.
“Chip constraints have necessitated some changes to available equipment on the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L,” the spokesperson said. “If a vehicle was built without the equipment, the U.S. Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) was adjusted accordingly to reflect a reduction in overall cost.”
The Quadra-Life air suspension offers five different modes: Normal Ride Height, Off-Road 1, Off-Road 2, Park Mode, and Aero Mode. The first of these modes offers a consistent 8.3 inches of ground clearance while Off-Road 1 lifts the vehicle by 1.6 inches. Meanwhile, Off-Road 2 lifts the SUV by 2.4 inches, giving it a total of 10.9 inches of clearance. Meanwhile, Park Mode lowers the Grand Cherokee L by 1.8 inches from the normal mode to enable easier ingress/egress. Last but not least is Aero Mode, which drops the SUV by 0.8-inches.
