A rare Toyota MR2 that was transformed by design house Zagato is looking for a new home.
The car, known as the TMI VM180 Zagato is one of the coachbuilder’s lesser-known vehicles and was sold exclusively by Toyota Modellista International (TMI) in Japan. Just 100 examples were built and this particular example has been listed up for sale through Bingo.

Unique exterior styling ensures that the VM180 Zagato stands out from a typical Toyota MR2. The intriguing features start at the front where the sports car features an entirely new fascia with large headlight clusters surrounded by green paintwork. The car’s bumper also has new intakes and a bespoke grille, while the MR2 also sports a distinctive hood.
Zagato’s alterations continue along the sides of the car and include chrome-finished wheels and unique front and rear quarter panels. The coachbuilder also transformed the rear of the car with new taillight clusters, also painted in green to match the headlight clusters.
Some unique features are also found in the cabin, including distinctive seats clad in red and black leather.
The listing doesn’t provide many details about this particular VM180 but does confirm it has been driven 40,070 km (around 24,900 miles) and has the available hardtop that the MR2 could be ordered with from the factory.
Some minor tweaks have also been done to the engine, so the mid-mounted 1.8-liter mill now pumps out 155 hp and 131 lb-ft (178 Nm) of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via Toyota’s five-speed SMT automated manual transmission.
