Honda is preparing a rugged new TrailSport trim to appeal to weekend warriors.
Designed to improve off-road capability, the trim will echo Subaru’s Wilderness variants and feature a number of upgrades.
The teasers aren’t very revealing, but Honda said we can expect rugged front and rear styling as well as durable cladding. We can also see a prominent exhaust as well as metallic skid plates.
Driven: Honda Passport Proves Comfort And Off-Road Capability Can Mix
The updates will continue in the cabin as TrailSport variants will be distinguished by orange contrast stitching and standard all-whether floor mats. There will also be other exclusive touches, but details are elusive.
TrailSport variants will apparently come standard with the company’s torque-vectoring all-wheel drive system. Honda also said customers can expect improved off-road capability thanks to unique suspensions that provide additional ground clearance. There will also be meatier tires, underbody protection and “expanded all-wheel drive system capabilities.”
The first TrailSports will arrive at dealerships later this year and the moniker will be applied to “certain models within the brand’s light truck lineup.” These will likely include the Passport and Ridgeline, but we’ll learn more this fall.
According to American Honda’s Dave Gardner, “TrailSport represents the next chapter in our rugged direction and will bring exclusive styling to our existing light trucks that will appeal to buyers seeking adventure.” He went on to say the “adventure-ready vehicles” will leverage “more than 20 years of experience creating highly capable light trucks.”
