Few combustion-powered cars can keep up with a Dodge Challenger SRT Demon in a straight line but in a recent review, Throttle House decided to test it against a new Ford Mustang Shelby Super Snake.
Giving the Demon its grunt is a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 pumping out 808 hp and 717 lb-ft (972 Nm) on regular pump gas or 840 hp and 770 lb-ft (1,043 Nm) on 100-plus high-octane race fuel. While putting all of that power to the ground can prove difficult in tricky conditions, the Demon leaps forward at staggering speeds once its massive rear tires find traction.
In the other corner is the Shelby Super Snake. While it may not be quite as revered as the Demon and comes from Shelby American rather than Ford itself, it is still a very impressive piece of kit. In fact, it pumps out 825 hp from its 5.0-liter supercharged V8, meaning it should offer very similar acceleration to the Demon.

During the first race, the driver of the Mustang gets the slightly better launch and for a brief time, was roughly a couple of feet ahead of the Dodge. However, as the speeds started to build, the Dodge pulled ahead and opened up a sizeable lead by the time the two crossed the finish light. This was no doubt due in part to the fact that the Super Snake is down on torque compared to the Demon, churning out 630 lb-ft (854 Nm).
Prior to the second race, the Ford went into a limp mode but it was quickly resolved and lined up against the Dodge for a rolling race. Which car do you think will win this race?
