Mercedes’ has unveiled the 2022 model year G-Class at IAA MOBILITY 2021 auto show. The new G-Class update includes upgraded standard equipment for all G-Class’, new lines for interior and exterior upgrades, and a new set of accessories that will sit under the “Professional Line.”

Professional Line Turns Looks The G-Class To 11

The new Professional Line aims to amp up the rugged looks of what is undeniably an already butch-looking vehicle. In Mercedes‘ own words, it gives “an even more off-road look for the off-road icon.” The Professional Line includes stone guard grilles for the headlights, mudflaps front and rear as well as chunky tyres and 18-inch 5-spoke wheels.

If that’s not enough of a “Professional” look, you can add to the standard package with “Professional Exterior Line Custom Specifications.” Highlights include the Professional spare wheel holder and Professional Roof Rack, both pictured on the show car. The latter can be used to erect a roof tent transforming the G-Wagon into an ideal campsite companion.

New Exterior And Interior Lines, More Options, And Better Base Spec

In addition to the exterior Professional Line, Mercedes say that they will offer more packages to make the spec-ing process easier for customers. For the exterior, that includes an Exclusive Line and AMG Line, while the interior will offer Standard Line, Exclusive Line, and Superior Lines.

There are also more options for customers to tick when building their G-Class. These include dark-tinted windows for the rear side and rear windshield, ambient lighting with 64 colours instead of the previous eight, and a more diverse selection of paint schemes to choose from — the pictures car, in case you were wondering, is finished in “Magno,”  with selected exterior and interior elements from the “G manufaktur customisation program.”

All 2022 MY G-Classes will feature a higher level of standard equipment too — albeit the two upgrades mentioned wouldn’t exactly yield any benefit without other ticked boxes. That’s because all cars will be pre-fitted for rear-seat entertainment, as well as a tow-hitch, which presumably makes it easier to add those two elements to any car outside of the factory.
