Porsche has issued a recall impacting 4,934 Boxster and Cayman models in the United States.
The recall notice states that a manufacturing defect results in rear-axle carrier side sections not meeting specifications. More specifically, Porsche says that a material analysis has revealed that the proportion of strontium in the cast component exceeds the specified threshold, resulting in a deterioration of the material properties.
This faulty part could crack or break over time, potentially resulting in the loss of vehicle control and increasing the risk of a crash. Porsche notes that a rattling noise may be heard from the rear.
