Say hello to the Oletha, a car brought to life by Smit Vehicle Engineering that is essentially the BMW Z8 Coupe that the Bavarian automaker never made as its retro-styled sportscar that paid tribute to the classic 507 was only ever produced as a roadster. The automotive start-up describes it as “our love letter to the BMW of our childhoods.”

Smit Vehicle Engineering doesn’t state what model its creation is based on, but as Motor1 reports, it’s not hard to tell its E86-gen Z4 Coupe roots. Still, there are minimum signs of the car’s origins thanks to all-new carbon fiber bodywork. The front of the Oletha Coupe has unique kidney grilles, retro-inspired headlights, and a power dome on the hood. Other key design highlights include a bespoke roof, dual tailpipes, and taillights just like those of the original Z8.

Whereas the original BMW Z8 was powered by a 4.9-liter naturally aspirated S62 V8 from the E39 M5, the Oletha Coupe instead features a naturally aspirated 4.4-liter S65B44 V8 used by the E90 M3 CRT and E92 M3 GTS that has been tuned to produce over 450 hp. Smit Vehicle Engineering says it has fitted a carbon fiber intake manifold and a bespoke exhaust made from a mixture of stainless steel and Inconel.

Coupled to this engine is a six-speed manual transmission sending power to the rear wheels via a mechanical limited-slip differential.

Other keys features of the Oletha Coupe include KW two-way adjustable suspension and AP Racing brakes with forged Radi-CAL calipers. It also sits on forged and machined monoblock wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.

No images of the car’s interior have been released but the company is promising 8-way adjustable touring or carbon fiber composite sport seats and an “Audiophile-grade sound system.”

Nearly Double The Price Of A Used Z8!

While there is no official word on pricing, after we posted this story, Top Gear tested the Oletha and learned that it costs an insane £335,000, or around $447,000 at today’s rates, which is nearly double the cost of a low mileage, used Z8!
