Not long after the Singer DLS was showcased at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Singer has brought the car to the Nurburgring for a series of tests.
This dark green example is the same car that featured at Goodwood and was later driven by Top Gear. In fact, this is the first customer example of the DLS that was built by Singer and clearly, the owner is happy for the brand to use it for development. According to our spy photographers, Singer was conducting engine testing at the ‘Ring and actually brought along a couple of spare engines with them.

That engine is also the highlight of the Singer DLS: a four-valve per cylinder, four-camshaft, naturally-aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six that was developed under the watchful eye of Hans Mezger. It produces 500 hp, is air-cooled, and revs through to 9,300 rpm. It is one of the finest-sounding production car engines ever created and according to Top Gear’s recent review, is an absolute joy to push to its limits.
These shots of the car being tested at the ‘Ring help to highlight just how low its ride height is. This is particularly evident when it was pictured driving around the ‘little carousel’ on the circuit.
The 4.0-liter engine is bolted to a Hewland six-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels. This transmission uses magnesium casings with hollow shafts to reduce the rotating mass.
As you may already know, the car doesn’t come cheap. In fact, each example starts at $1.8 million and Singer will only build 75 of them.
