A total of 38 2021 Audi e-tron quattro and e-tron Sportback quattro SUVs are being recalled because of mismanufactured parts within the brake booster.
Audi reports that wafers for the flexray transceiver, a part within the electromechanical brake booster, were not properly cleaned by its supplier. As a result, they could corrode, leading to short-circuits or interruptions within the component.
If there’s a short within the brake booster, it could lead to a functional issue with the brake servo that could lead to drivers losing braking assistance. Although the e-tron would still have full mechanical braking capability, the sudden loss of brake assist could lead to an increased risk of a crash.

Owners are cautioned to look out for a warning in the vehicle’s instrument cluster, which could alert them of a malfunction in the brake system. If this occurs, Audi says they should contact their dealer immediately to have the issue diagnosed.
In all, there are 11 e-tron Sportback quattros and 27 e-tron quattros affected in the U.S. Audi is not aware of any injuries related to this issue and will fix it by replacing the brake booster free of charge.
