The Citroen Ami is an adorable if slightly bemusing car for a North American like me. In fact, it isn’t even a car, it’s a quadricycle.
That means that although it looks rather car-like, the Citroen Ami tops out at 45 km/h (28 mph) and can only go 70 km (43.5 miles) on a charge. That also means, however, that it only costs €6,000 ($7,053 USD) and can be driven by people who don’t have licenses. All of which makes it attractive for city-dwellers and those with short commutes.
The downside is that, though small compared to a car, it’s massive when compared to something like an e-bike or a scooter. Meaning that it also has some of the disadvantages of a car, like the need to find parking.

Deciding whether or not to get one, then, involves a complicated calculus of space, ability, weather, budget, and more. That all sounds very complicated, so we have no choice but to turn to the crucible of motorsport to decide which is most worth your time.
CarWow has thus given us a drag race between the Ami, an electric scooter, and an e-Bike. On paper, the scooter looks pretty good with its 700W (0.9 hp) motor and its 64 km (40 miles) of range. Its top speed of 24 km/h (15 mph) means that the fix was in and it could have never won its heat.
The e-bike, however, a GoCycle G4i, has no such top speed limitation. Although its motor only produces 500W (0.67 hp), the motor is there to supplement the power that your legs can generate.
Will the Ami be able to outmuscle an e-bike? There’s only one way to find out.
