Acura has just released a video detailing the development process of the potent NSX Type S and the various improvements that it has made to the limited-run model.

This clip includes an interview with NSX Type S chief engineering and development leader Satoshi Mizukami, who reveals that the team created the car around a ‘performance design’ philosophy. As such, they wanted to create a model with improved performance and complete with a new design that emphasized this performance. Mizukami also says that engineers and designers worked collaboratively during wind tunnel testing to perfect the exterior design.

During the video, Acura also says that it worked hard to emphasize the sound of the engine for occupants, adding more emotion to the driving experience.

Production of the NSX Type S will be handled by Acura’s facility in Marysville, Ohio and just 350 units will be produced for the global market, of which 300 have been reserved for the U.S. and 30 are heading to Japan.

A number of striking visual changes have been made. For example, the NSX Type S has a revised front fascia with a new bumper, larger air intakes, and a pronounced carbon-fiber splitter. In addition, there are carbon fiber side sills and an overhauled rear end that includes a bespoke carbon fiber diffuser. Forged wheels available in Matte Shark Grey and Gloss Berlina Black are also available.

Some minor tweaks have also been made to the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 and the three electric motors so the car produces 600 hp and 492 lb-ft (667 Nm), gains of 27 hp and 16 lb-ft (22 Nm) over the regular NSX.
