The 2022 Toyota HiLux range has grown in Japan with the introduction of a new GR Sport variant.
Japan’s HiLux GR Sport variant follows on from the Hilux Revo GR Sport that was unveiled in Thailand in August. Despite its name, it is not a high-performance version from Gazoo Racing akin to the Supra or GR Yaris and the upgrades are mainly visual in nature and help the pickup stand out from lesser variants.

Kicking off the alterations made are body-colored wheel arches that increase the truck’s width by 45 mm. Toyota has also equipped the HiLux GR Sport with a unique front fascia and a distinctive black grille with larger Toyota lettering. Moreover, the truck features 18-inch wheels finished in black, black rock sliders, red brake calipers at the front, and a black rear bumper.
The sporty version of the HiLux also gets some unique interior touches. These include synthetic leather upholstery, GR logos in the headrests, red suede across the upper bolsters of the front seats, red contrast stitching, a GR-badged steering wheel, aluminum sport pedals, metallic paddle shifters and a GR engine start button.
Powering the Toyota HiLux GR Sport in Japan is a 2.4-liter turbocharged diesel four-cylinder with 147 hp (110 kW) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque that’s mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Despite undergoing no engine changes, the HiLux GR Sport does have a unique suspension tune designed to improve steering response and handling.
