Toyota will introduce the new Audio Multimedia infotainment system of the 2022 Tundra pickup truck across the rest of its line-up in the coming years.

The new infotainment system of the 2022 Tundra is available with 8- and 14-inch displays and features five times more processing power than its predecessor. It also offers support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and include a new voice recognition feature dubbed ‘Intelligent Assistant.’ It is cloud-based and upgradable through over-the-air updates.

While recently speaking with Auto News about the system, chief operating officer of Toyota Connected North America, Steve Basra, confirmed that it will be introduced across the rest of Toyota’s models within the next three to four years.

Basra also said that the Toyota Connected subsidiary is working on a host of services to offer consumers with its new system, including possible remote refueling where a fuel truck could fill up a vehicle wherever it is parked.

According to Toyota Connected chief executive Zack Hicks, the company is also exploring how it can use sensors inside vehicles to detect the presence of a heartbeat and monitor the internal temperature of the cabin, potentially allowing for the system to automatically open the windows if the temperature rises to dangerous levels.

“We can make the customers’ lives better, safer and even surprisingly more convenient,” Hicks said. “It’s really about creating customized customer experiences in the vehicle. We can augment the mobile device experience, but we can also do things that the mobile devices cannot do and give you very vehicle-specific experiences.”

Basra added that Toyota Connected is also working on services through the new Audio Multimedia infotainment system that includes a parking garage locator and a hybrid coach that shows how to drive more efficiently.
