BMW has been testing a facelifted version of the X7 for many months now and fittingly, Alpina has also started testing its version of the refreshed XB7.
This particular Alpina XB7 prototype was spied on a back of a transporter truck alongside a number of other prototypes from BMW. It is easily identifiable as an Alpina due to its wheels, brakes, and quad tailpipes.

The updated X7 is expected to look very different than the currently available model thanks to its new split headlight design. It is expected that the top section of these lights will house the LED daytime running lights and turn signals while the lower section will house the main headlamps and high beams. Alpina won’t make any changes to these headlights, but it will equip the X7 with a distinctive front bumper that will further differentiate it from the standard model.
Elsewhere, we can see the rear-end of this prototype is also bathed in camouflage and is hiding a set of new taillights with bespoke LED light signatures.
The alterations will continue into the cabin of the X7 and include the new curved infotainment screen and digital instrument cluster introduced by the electric iX and i4. BMW interiors have been criticized as being a little outdated in recent years but this new screen, as well as some other updates, should make the cabin of the X7 and XB7 feel much more modern.
Alpina isn’t expected to make any changes to the XB7’s engine. As such, the SUV will continue to feature a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 pumping out 612 hp and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque.
