Nissan Australia has just updated the X-Trail for the 2022 model year and once again, it has tweaked the outgoing version rather than introducing the all-new generation unveiled almost 18 months ago in the U.S.

Nissan is celebrating 20 years of the X-Trail, sold in the U.S. as the Rogue, in Australia and the launch of the 2022 model comes just eight months after the 2021 model was announced for the local market. Updates introduced for 2022 are minor.

The most significant change made to the range is the introduction of a new ST+ model, slotting between the existing ST and ST-L. It is based on the standard ST and simply adds an around-view monitor with moving object detection, front parking sensors, rear parking sensors, and satellite navigation.

Some other tweaks have been made to the line-up. For example, the X-Trail ST-L now comes standard with front parking sensors, as does the flagship Ti. These changes come on the back of upgrades introduced for the 2021 model year that included a new 7-inch infotainment display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, new 18-inch wheels, and digital radio.

Standard models come equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine producing 142 hp (106 kW) and 148 lb-ft (200 Nm) of torque. All trim levels can be optioned with a larger 2.5-liter mill with 169 hp (126 kW) and 167 lb-ft (226 Nm) of torque.

“Celebrating 20 years of X-TRAIL in Australia is a proud moment,” Nissan Australia marketing director Adam Paterson said in a statement. “That’s two decades of fun and adventure, with more than 272,000 examples of the X-TRAIL welcomed into families right across the country. And what better way to celebrate than with the launch of an update, with an all-new grade option that delivers more of what our customers know and love about their X-TRAIL?”

This will serve as the final update to the outgoing X-Trail, with confirmation that Nissan will finally introduce the new-generation model Down Under in 2022.
