A BAC Mono R has set a new lap record for production vehicles at the Red Bull Ring in Austria. The single-seater track-day supercar, which is limited to just 30 units, managed an average speed of 122 mph (196 km/h) on its way to a lap time of 1:32.96.
“Another event, another lap record for Mono R,” said Ian Briggs, BAC co-founder and design director. “We’re absolutely delighted to be at the top of the leaderboard at such a stunning and iconic circuit.”
The lap was set by British racing driver Adam Christodoulou and beat the existing record, set by a Ferrari LaFerrari, by almost six seconds. That lap time, set by Germany’s Hubert Haupt, was an already impressive 1:38.95.

Although down on power compared to the LaFerrari, the BAC Mono R‘s 343 hp (347 PS/255 kW) was helped enormously by its very low weight. Tipping the scales at just 555 kg (1,223 lbs) and riding on street-legal Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires, the BAC was able to make full use of every single horsepower.
“Back in the early stages of developing the car we said that no record is safe worldwide, and that’s certainly proving the case,” said Briggs. “R is an incredible machine and we cannot wait for the next giant to fall. Special thanks to our tire partner Pirelli for their excellent hospitality in Austria and giving us a chance to go for the record.”
The BAC Mono R is headed to Germany next, for the P Zero Experience at Hockenheim on October 14 where, we presume, it will look to take another record.
