The Ford Bronco Sport has proven to be one of the most popular new SUVs on sale today, and this has now been further solidified since it has outsold the Escape for the month of September.
The report comes from Ford’s official sales data, which shows the Bronco Sport selling 11,686 units compared to the Escape’s 11,462. Those numbers might not be all that different, but it’s important to remember that the Escape is a well-known vehicle that has been around for 21 years, and the Bronco Sport managed to surpass it in its first year on sale.

Additionally, the report also shows that Escape sales went down 31.8% from last year, which is at least partially due to the Bronco Sport’s introduction. The baby Bronco was also Ford’s second-best-selling SUV, losing out only to the Explorer, which sold 20,092 units. As for how it stacked up to the real Bronco, it outsold its big sibling by more than 3 to 1, though that’s likely a result of the numerous supply chain issues going on with the Bronco.

Seeing the Bronco Sport as essentially an Escape with trendy rugged looks and added capability for not that much more money (Escape starts at $25,555 while Bronco Sport starts at $27,215), none of this is really all that surprising. Despite wearing the Bronco name, the crossover actually has more in common with the Escape and Maverick than the Jeep Wrangler-rivaling full-size Bronco, meaning it drives like the crossovers people love to buy, all while looking and performing like some of the more serious off-road players.
Given that the margin is so fine between Escape and Bronco Sport sales, it’s unclear if this trend will continue, so we’ll just have to wait and see to find out.
