GAC Motor will soon start shipping its GS5 SUV to the Mexican market where it will be sold as the Dodge Journey.
The vehicle was teased by the automaker earlier this month and is thought to be virtually identical to the GS5 that is sold in China under the Trumpchi brand, albeit for the fact that it has been rebadged as a Dodge.

The Mexican-bound SUV is being built at the Hangzhou plant in east China that GAC operates with joint venture partner Stellantis. This joint venture also produces the Jeep Grand Commander, Renegade, Compass, and Cherokee in China.
GAC has confirmed that the first batch of 770 GS5 models will be exported this week to Mexico. It expects to export nearly 4,000 by the end of the year.
The GAC GS5 measures 4,695 mm long, 1,885 mm wide, and is 1,726 mm tall with a 2,710 mm wheelbase. It is powered exclusively by a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 150 hp and 173 lb-ft (234 Nm) of torque that is coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission.
In a statement, GAC said it plans to deepen ties with Stellantis and “will continue to explore the Mexican market as well as its surrounding areas.”
While Stellantis will soon be selling a new Dodge-branded model in Mexico, it’s not all good news for the company and its joint venture with GAC. In fact, dwindling sales will force the closure of its Guangzhou factory, one of the parnership’s two plants.
